What do you know about wallets? Did you know the word "wallet" has been in use since 100 A.D. to refer to a bag or a knapsack for carrying things? The term "wallet" in its modern meaning of "billfold" in American English dates to 1834. Billfolds were developed after the introduction of the paper money or bills.

Prior to the introduction of paper currency, simple drawstring leather pouches were used for storing coins. The modern bi or tri-fold wallet with "card slots" became standardized in the early 1950s with the introduction of credit cards. Money clips are used to hold a few folded bills together. This is slipped into pocket so you don’t have to keep removing your wallet. Just as few more accessories for men.

Scarves and ascots can complete an outfit. Wool blends and cashmere are a nice look for winter coats. Ascots are also used to replace a more formal tie. The history of neckties goes all the way back to the Ottoman Empire, when they were defeated by a Croatian army.

The men were celebrating with brightly colored handkerchiefs around their necks. The French king saw them and so the fashion started. It quickly spread across the channel to England. As time passed they became more flamboyant and intricate. Can you imagine having almost a hundred different knots to remember? Finally they became a bit more simple. They have changed from narrow to wide, up to five inches wide sometimes, to small knots to double and back again. They fell out of popularity in the 60’s and have become the thing to wear again.

Cufflinks are used with long sleeve dress shirts in place of buttons. They should reflect your personality. Ribbons were used to hold the cuffs together and eventually small chains with buttons on the ends were used. Thus the cufflink.

If you need a key ring or key chain the varieties are endless. Silver, gold, and the bobbles on the ends are just as numerous.

Hat etiquette for men.
This was a very important accessory for men in the past. The proper etiqutte was as important as the proper hat. It is an act of courtesy and respect for men to remove their hats during the National Anthem, in the presence of a woman, while on an elevator, when entering a building or upon arrival to their destination, inside a church. Also hold your hat so the inside is hidden. While men may tip their hats to women as a sign of respect, to tip it to another man is an insult.

Hat myths
Myth: Wearing Hats Causes Hair Loss
As a general rule, wearing hats DOES NOT cause hair loss. This hat myth came about when the general public made note of the fact that balding people commonly wore hats to hide their hair loss.

Myth: Wearing a hat is essential to keep warm in frigid temperatures.
Remember being told to wear your hat, you lose at least 80% of your body heat through your head. Closer inspection of our body's heat loss has revealed that claim is false. There is no need to wear a hat this winter for warmth, but why not top off your wintry look with a fashionable hat. These are just a few of the accessories for men.
