Good Gadget to Play With
Posted On 2010-03-18 , 2:18 PM
OH HO. I got to play with a guy's gadget. Yes indeed. It is super. I have a friend that purchased the record player that plugs into your computer. This is perfect. I know I will date myself talking about 45's and LP's. We all have a stack of vinyls stashed away somewhere, in closets and the garage, with no way to play them, right? Wrong. This gadget plugs into your computer, downloads to iTunes or just plays the records. This gadget will play 78's, 45’s, 33's, all of them. It was great being able to listen to some old music. I highly recommend this toy.

Have you ever stayed at an Inn Suites? They are a part of Best Western. Nice hotel. We are at the one in Tucson. Very clean, large room, comfortable bed. Yikes, the walls are very, very thin! You really can hear everything! I mean EVERYTHING! Would recmmend Inn Suites? Absolutely.

Oh It's Christmas Shopping Time.
Posted On 2009-12-12 , 4:25 PM
Well it's time to shop for Christmas. Travel to Tucson this weekend and Hit the 4th street fair. Blocks and blocks of craft booths. Oh so wonderful. Somethings you can be inspired to make yourself and others you wonder at peoples imaginations. Huge crowds, lots of jostling carnival atmosphere and food smells. Just a lot of fun. They have this fair twice a year, April and December. A great place to spend a few fun hours.

What The Heck?
Posted On 2009-10-26 , 10:11 AM
Beer contains female hormones
Last month, Wits University and RAU scientists released the results of a
Recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer.
Men should take a concerned look at their beer consumption.
The theory is that beer contains female hormones (hops contain Phytoestrogens) and that by drinking enough beer, men turn into women .
To test the theory, 100 men drank 8 pints of beer each within a 1 hour period.
It was then observed that 100% of the test subjects :
1) Argued over nothing.
2) Refused to apologize when obviously wrong.
3) Gained weight.
4) Talked excessively without making sense.
5) Became overly emotional
6) Couldn't drive.
7) Failed to think rationally.
8) Had to sit down while urinating.
No further testing was considered necessary.

Maxine KNows Whats Good For You
Posted On 2009-10-12 , 8:32 AM
This Just Shows You Should Have These Vices!!!!!!
Why Drinking Smoking and Chocolate Are Good For You
Just ask Maxine!
4 Worms Church Sermon!

For those of you who missed church on Sunday, here is a recap!
Four worms and a lesson to be learned!!!!

A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.
Four worms were placed into four separate jars.
The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.
The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.
The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup.
The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil.
At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results:
The first worm in alcohol- Dead

The second worm in cigarette smoke - Dead

Third worm in chocolate syrup - Dead

Fourth worm in good clean soil - Alive.
So the Minister asked the congregation -
What did you learn from this demonstration???
Maxine was sitting in the back, quickly raised her hand and said,
.gif)
'As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won't have worms!'
That pretty much ended the service

A Real Ghost Town? Dosen't Seem Like It!
Posted On 2009-09-30 , 9:37 AM
Jerome Arizona, Ghost town, old copper mining town. What a wonderful place to spend a leisurely sunny weekend afternoon. Actually any day of the week is good. Built into the side of Mingus Mountain in northern Arizona, Jerome offers great entertainment to every age group. The treasures you will find in Jerome are not just touristy things. Lots of wonderful creative art stores in this little town. Visitor’s center has the whole history of the place and is extremely interesting. If you like ghost mines then you need to take a trip to the old mining town. Kids will love this place. The buildings were real and some are still used today. Really a great place to visit. If you are hungry, and who won’t be walking up and down all the streets, Jerome offers a variety of food. We have eaten at several and enjoyed them all. Grape is a newer establishment that actually tells you what wines go with the menu items. A true surprise in Jerome, something you would expect in Phoenix maybe, not in a ghost town. But our favorite place of all the eateries is definitely “The Haunted Hamburger” up above the park. This restaurant dangles out off the side of the mountain, but then everything in Jerome does. But it offers spectacular views of the Red Rocks of Sedona and in the distance the San Francisco Peaks to guests. They have great hamburgers too. So if you get to visit Jerome head up the hill to “the Haunted Hamburger” and bring your appetite.

Look What I Got!

Oh It's Chocolate
When we were in London before, we past a chocolate shop several times on High Kensington. I was riding around on one of the double decker buses on Saturday or Sunday before my husband got in and as I went by I thought “hmm that name is familiar.
Oh I advertise them on my web site.” I have an affiliate connection with them. Well the US store. By the way they have a store in Boston and will be opening a 2nd location soon. I had to go in. I had to get pictures. I have their product on my website. I was so excited. In we went and there were the chocolate bars on Chocoholics Dream page 1 and 2. Let me tell you they are much larger than they look on my pages. They are huge and the taste fits the size, delicious!!!! A very generous 10 inches tall by 6 inches wide 1 pound of scrumptiousness and all good.
I bought 3 bars, Caramellow, Triple Chocolate Wham and Rocky Road. I have tried the 1st two. Yummmmmmm. Rocky Road is in my refrigerator and it calls my name and beckons me every time I open the door. So far I have resisted the siren song of chocolate. It’s really hard though because I know how good the chocolate is!

London Again??
Posted On 2009-09-18 , 3:24 PM
What did we do in London the 2nd time?
Well, we stayed mainly around the Kensington Hyde Park area. We were a bit familiar with that area from a previous stay. The Ramada Hyde Park is a clean hotel very close to many things. We hopped a bus and actually eventually made it to St Paul’s Cathedral. You know the one in Mary Poppin’s were the old woman feeds the birds? I always loved that song and I got to sit on the steps and go into the cathedral myself.
We also rode the London Eye. If you want views this is the ride for you. The day we went we bought tickets that included the Aquarium and the Eye. It was hot, the line was long and the views were worth it. 0005,0066. Of course Buckingham Palace and Big Ben are always on the list of thing to see.
As we walked around Kensington Gardens we saw Dianna’s Palace.
We went to the aquarium and on a bus ride that took us to places that would never ever be on any type of tour of London. Yeah, don't make eye contact and hang on tight to your purse. We had a wonderful time again but I think I have seen enough of London. I am ready to spend extra time some where else.

My August Trip to The UK
Posted On 2009-08-17 , 2:41 AM
Well I feel like an old hand at tackling Heathrow. I went straight to the correct line for customs, found the correct baggage turntable, got my bag with no problem got to the desk and bought a ticket on Dot2dot and made it to my hotel and room. No problem. The only snag was my husband was not there due to trouble with charter planes and airspace. He arrives after me. So instead of relying on him to take care of things as I usually do and having him there to meet me (usually) I was on my own in London for 1 1/2 days. The whole trip started with a shuttle ride from Cottonwood Az to Skyharbor in Phoenix. I have always taken my own car, this was new way of getting there for me. Went very smoothly driver had great personality and lots of bus driving experience, this was her first day driving a shuttle van. She got all of us to our terminals with no problems at all. She was great. Checked in early, again right to the counter no holdups, or problems. The airport did not seem as crowded as the last few times I flew in March, April and May. Have you flown in envoy before? I am sorry but I think the seats in envoy are the most uncomfortable things around. I don't care if they recline or lay back. They don’t lay out flat, and let me tell you the 2 times I have gotten to use them they were as hard as rocks. I could have been lying down on a floor and been as comfortable. Don’t even think about trying to sleep on your side, ouch! We are staying for a few days at the Novotel West in London. What a nice hotel, clean, friendly easy to get around to the buses, and once you catch a bus you can go anywhere. And thank goodness there is a Starbucks around the corner oh yeah and Krispy Kreme donuts too. Well got to head out no point in being in London if I am not out sight seeing.

Going Back To Stonehenge

I am going back to England in a few weeks. I am starting to get really excited now, time is drawing closer. I am a bit familar with Heathrow so I shouldn't get lost like the 1st time through. My husband and I get to go back to places in London we liked or didn't get to see before. We love buying a day bus pass and hoping on and just following a route. Then going back. We saw areas not on a tour. I do look forward to this trip. All the pictures from my last Europe trip were lost when my computer crashed. I will ALWAYS back up my pictures first thing. Well, I will post pictures. Have a nice day.

Have You Been To Harrods?

Have you been to Harrods?
As a shopaholic I know you have heard of Harrods Department Store in London. All the hype about how huge it is, how wonderful, how expensive. Well it’s all true. It’s huge, wonderful and very expensive. My husband and I walked through several times. I had to buy something. I mean its Harrods. I could go to London and go into one of the most famous stores in the world and not get something. Honestly, shopaholics will understand this. My husband was good with just looking. I don’t mind window licking but sometimes you just have to buy. I knew they would have a pair of shoes I wanted and I was right. I took a little searching but I finally found them. I like to wear MBTs. Very comfortable, expensive but comfortable. This store is so huge that it took the clerk about ten minutes to get to the stockroom to find the styles and size. If you go to the buy shoes page there is a store that sells the MBTs. But anyway, back to Harrods and shopping. It was almost enough to send you into shopping overload. I know no true shopaholic will admit to such a failing. This place had rooms of everything. Rooms dedicated to just one thing. Like purses, every brand you can think of. Rooms dedicated to all shoes, men’s, women’s, children’s. Oh and the rooms for jewelry. I drooled my way through those. Some brands of watches had to have an appointment to see. They had their own special rooms. We had dinner there twice. It was delicious. One room for candy and pastries, one for seafood and meats, dry goods, cheeses. So if as a shopaholic you get tto go to London you really must go to Harrods.

Traffic Circles

Traffic Circles
I am sure that most people have been around a traffic circle at some point in their lives. You have probably driven around at least one. Very nerve wracking. Some of the thoughts that run through your mind are things like “Will that car let me in?” “Will that car let me out?” “Will that car hit me?” I know they can be scary. But really in the states we don’t have one at each intersection. Lucky us, we as drivers have enough problems just handling straight old traffic lights with left or right turns, never mind circles. But there are places that have lots of traffic circles. New Zealand has one at just about every intersection, I am sure. At least it seemed that way. And as we drove around from Auckland to Dunedin we had no problems. A bit unnerving at first but every one followed the rules and we did just fine. I feel it was a great accomplishment. Remember they drive on the other side of the road. After a few days of white knuckling it I managed to get behind the wheel and have a turn driving. My mantra was “stay on the left, stay on the left.” As long as I remembered that I was ok. I mean a few times I tried to get in on the drivers side only to find myself in the passenger seat, but I did manage. Then we went to Europe. One of our stops was Paris, home to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Arc De Triumph, the grand daddy of all traffic circles. I mean huge, twelve lanes around the Arc. Can you even begin to imagine trying to negotiate that thing? You get on the inner most lane near the Arc and you could be there all day because no one gives a bit of leeway to anyone else. Each man for himself and that’s it. We were in a tour buss and as we went around the Arc in one of the outer four lanes I watched a man in his car on an inner lane try to get over to exit. He tried and tried. Finally I saw him grip his wheel with both hands and speed up and just go. Our driver was very nice and sort of created a path for him in front of us. Also you have to remember the speed they travel around the Arc is not five or ten mph. It is much, much, much faster. I would never have the nerve to drive there.

New Lotto site
Posted On 2009-04-27 , 12:14 PM
Ok I just joined the lotto magic club. I am now playing in all Florida lotteries and Power Ball drawings each month. I do get other benefits with the club but seriuosly I did it for the lottery numbers and a chance to win. I can be asured of playing every Power Ball game even if I am away or out of the country. Sometimes I just forget to buy a ticket. You know how that is right? I May even be able to play all those games for free too! Now that would be cool. Play for free and maybe win something?

Where Have you Gone Lately?

Where Have you Gone Lately?
I just love to fly. Before that I flew to St Louis MO. Nice short flight from Phoenix. Easy airport to find your way around. No standing in lines. I always worry when I have to return a car. It’s easy to get it. The shuttle takes you. But finding the place if it is off site I find a bit nerve racking. I flew with my husband and his mother so it was very nice when we all got bumped up to first class. So nice and roomy. How ever the motel we stayed in was absolutely the worst. We booked on Hotels.com and let me tell you I should have just canceled and eaten the cost. We stayed at a Days Inn and I have never been in such a nasty room. The non smoking we got for my mother -in -law smelled of smoke and urine. YUK!. My husband was much kinder than I would have been when we wrote a review.
I have been going back and forth to Florida from Az. I flew into Fort Meyers. Nice little airport. I rented a car to drive up to Venice. I used Thrifty and I got to choose the type of car I wanted to drive. That was fun. I had such a hard time deciding. They are just lined up under the type and have keys in the door and you just go along and find one that you want to drive. And check in was the easiest I have ever experienced. They walked up punched in the tag and had a receipt ready before I got out of the car. I flew out of Sarasota to Charlotte. Man, a very small plane. I will be going back the same way.
I think the scariest airport I have ever been in was Heathrow in London. I was very nervous about meeting my husband there. He came into another terminal at an earlier time. All I could tell him was here is my flight, arrival time and just find me!. Very easy going back. I bought an envoy ticket and got to use the envoy lounge at the Philadelphia airport. On the way back it was only first class and the US Air lounge for first class was 3 terminals over and was not as nice as just the regular terminal. So I walked back to the terminal I had to leave from and just relaxed.
US Air is probably the airline I use the most. I have my frequent flyer number through them. That is great. I have flown my Dad around to different places and my daughter and I get them first class too. My Dad alway says “no that’s OK I can fly coach “but he really enjoys it.

Toms Shoes

Toms Shoes For Children
I was watching TV the other night and an AT&T commercial came on. I know you have seen them. The ad has a company talking about what they do and how AT&T will help them do a better job and they show different things about the company. When I realized what I was seeing I thought "Hey, I know that company. I have a link to them. That’s Tom’s Shoes!" I think what surprised me is that I have never seen a commercial for Tom’s Shoes before. It was really neat. They showed Blake from Toms shoes with all these kids. It was probably about a minute long. It was great. All the kids he helps. He was talking about how the donation works. For every pair of shoes you buy from TOMS SHOES they will donate a pair to a child in need. They had pictures of kids around the world getting shoes. It was really neat. I think it is a great cause. The shoes are pretty cool looking too. Can you imagine how good you will feel putting on a pair of Toms Shoes and know that a needy child will have a pair to wear because of you? What better cause than to help child. You should really check out my site and go to Taking on a Cause and Giving a Gift. The second cause is sending a cake to a soldier over seas. It is called Bake Me a Wish. If you order a cake through this company they will send a cake to a soldier. I have never seen them on a commercial either and they are a good cause. Every one likes cake. The cool thing about both sites is you can see pictures of the kids in the shoes and the smiles and read the responses from the soldiers who received cakes. Do you have any more worthy causes?

Mahjong
Posted On 2009-02-26 , 11:27 AM
I think once you get the hang of Mahjong and start getting used to some strategies you can find Mahjong a vice. My kids will call and ask me what I'm doing and all I can say is "MAHJONGING. I must STOP!!!!." I found one sight that is online and you can play patterns people make up and submit. That is a great site. I love Mahjong. I gave my Dad a computer with a Mahjong game down loaded on to it and he said he would probably never play but leave it on because a friend of his might like it. So I did. And he calls to tell me how high he gets in points but gets beaten by his friend all the time. They both get hooked playing.

MmMMm Chocolate
Posted On 2009-02-26 , 11:07 AM
That is really all you need to say about chocolate. Yummy. I have such a hard time writing about it. I have to keep a stash of Dove chocolates right next to me. You know it is really hard when you are on weight watchers. But if you look you can have hershey's kisses. 9 of them for 5 points. Any one else a chocoholic? I Admit the addiction and vice freely. And I am not a chocolate snob. I like any kind, white, milk, dark, semi sweet. Well ok maybe I am a bit of a chocolate snob because I do prefer a good chocolate, but in a crunch any brand will do.
