OOh LaLa - LingerieOOH LaLa, lingerie has really come a LONG way. Wow, be happy ladies you live in this time. It wasn’t always fun undies. Can you imagine undergarments that actually hurt you or even hurt to wear? It's true, clothes could actually hurt you. Women’s undies were the worst. They went from one extreme, completely resticting to the other, no support at all.
Pre Christian Crete a women’s corset was tight, made of bone and lifted breasts up and out. That’s it, the breasts, right there for all to see. Then the time and moral pendulum swings the other way. In medieval era women’s corsets were so tight that when strapped into these iron corsets they had boyish figures. Can you imagine wearing an iron corset all day? Yikes, the extra weight you would have to lug around.
Now swing back again during the Renaissance women’s curves were desirous. This is one of those dangerous times because the hourglass figure was what was considered beautiful. The smaller the waist the better the figure, the more desirable. So corsets were tightened to the point that ribs were broken and after time even miss shaped. Really, break a rib or two to look good? How well could you breath with broken ribs and no room for a deep breath? Of course you got lots of ribbon and lace to decorate the pushup part of the corset but if you can’t breath? When doctors started to speak out on health hazards the designs of women’s corsets became a little less restrictive. Oh yay!!! Bras. By the 19th century women could breathe easier, literally! Corsets were smaller, looser, and lighter. Not only was this the birth of the “brassiere” which gave the breasts more support but it was also the time of the first padded bra. This was also the time that introduced stockings. They were held up by garters attached to the corsets. Now we have thigh highs that don’t require anything to hold them up. In the 1920’s we are back to that boy look. No curves anywhere. This was the time of the Flapper Girls. So now the light weight undies were bloomers, chemise, and bras. The Roaring Twenties curve free was in corsets were out, they were now history.
Enter the full figure look and curves are back. The 1930’s the pendulum has swung back again. Flat breasts were not in. Now bustier was the desire and breast enhancing bras are the in thing. This is also when the girdle became a popular undergarment because big breasts were good fat waist and hips and but were not. And so we come to women’s liberation and burning the bra. This did cause lingerie makers to start focusing on things differently. Briefs became more popular and finally we have all shapes and styles of panties.
As you can see lingerie has come full circle. Today women have the complete range of just about every style of under garment imaginable. Women can look bigger, smaller, sexier, prim & proper, what ever you feel like when you get up. From thongs to granny panties, conservative gowns to fetish wear. So let’s have some fun.
